Observaciones:

James Brown tiene una importancia notable desde el momento en el que se le considera como creador único del concepto funk, a partir del R&B y que derivaron finalmente (probablemente en el sentido peyorativo de la palabra) en la música disco y, posteriormente, en el rap o el hip-hop. También ha cultivado el gospel y en general la música negra. La canción textual, conocida popularmente como "Sex Machine" se escuchó bastante bastante en España gracias a un anuncio de coches.

Como vocalista, poseyó una potencia notable en su mejor época y se le reconoce una gran capacidad de trabajo, más de 300 conciertos al año en los primeros 70, deberían aprender los de la SGAE.

Su faceta personal sin embargo es turbia. Con unos 70 años fue condenado por un asunto relacionado con el narcotráfico, también llegó a maltratar a su mujer y por si fuera poco era amigo de Michael Jackson. Falleció recientemente.
